Almighty God’s Word Led Me Out of the Bondage of Sin (II)

I went to the residence of Sister Zhou hopefully, only to find that the door was locked. I thought: where is Sister Zhou? Then I asked the neighbor and was told that Sister Zhou had gone to her hometown, and the date of her return was unknown. My heart sank at that news, and then I went back home heavily. I thought to myself: When will Sister Zhou come back? I have so many questions to ask her. So I prayed to the Lord, “O Lord! From Your words, I know that You have come back and have carried out a new work. But I’m still confused about many things. O Lord, may You prepare a suitable environment to make me understand Your work…”

A week later, my cousin and her husband (both of them believed in the Lord) came to visit my mother. Upon seeing me, they asked, “How is your condition recently?” I then showed them what I was reading those days and shared my gains with them. When our chat was heating up, a knock on the door came from outside. It was Sister Zhou, and then my sister led Sister Zhou into the room. When I saw her, I went up to her and held her hands excitedly, and said, “You are back! Sister Zhou. Please sit down, and have a good fellowship with us.” My sister gave each of us a cup of water, and sat down. Sister Zhou asked smilingly, “Sister Li, how do you feel about the book I gave you previously?” I said excitedly, “I’ve read it, and learnt that the Lord has returned and carried out a new work. We have the hope to free from sins now. But there’re many things I don’t understand. Please fellowship more with us.” Sister Zhou said with a smile, “Thank God for His guidance. It’s really that God’s sheep hear His voice. You are right. We have the hope to free from sins. Our Lord Jesus indeed has returned in the flesh and carried out a new work. He has expressed the word to judge, chastise, and purify man, so that man can get out of the bondage of sin. Actually, the book I gave you is the utterance of Almighty God, Christ of the last days. Let us read it together.” I handed the book to Sister Zhou. Then she opened it and read, “Though Jesus did much work among man, He only completed the redemption of all mankind and became man’s sin offering, and did not rid man of all his corrupt disposition. Fully saving man from the influence of Satan not only required Jesus to take on the sins of man as the sin offering, but also required God to do greater work to completely rid man of his disposition, which has been corrupted by Satan. And so, after man was forgiven his sins, God returned to flesh to lead man into the new age, and began the work of chastisement and judgment, which brought man to a higher realm. All those who submit under His dominion shall enjoy higher truth and receive greater blessings. They shall truly live in the light, and shall gain the truth, the way, and the life.” “The aim of the three stages of work is the salvation of all mankind—which means the complete salvation of man from the domain of Satan. Though each of the three stages of work has a different objective and significance, each is part of the work of saving mankind, and is different work of salvation carried out according to the requirements of mankind.” (from The Word Appears in the Flesh) Sister Zhou fellowshiped, “From the words of Almighty God, we see that God’s work of saving mankind can be divided into three stages: the Age of Law, the Age of Grace, and this day, the Age of kingdom. The aim of the three stages of work is all to save mankind. In the Age of Law, God issued the laws through Moses and led man to live. But later, people were increasingly unable to keep the laws, all lived in sin and were bound by sin, and were afflicted and fooled by Satan, so God began the work of the Age of Grace according to the need of mankind. In the Age of Grace, the Lord Jesus was personally crucified on the cross for mankind to forgive their sins. However, He only did the work of redemption, but the work of purifying man’s corrupt disposition, he did not do. Therefore, the satanic disposition which deeply rooted within man’s nature still remains. Man still often lives in a condition of constantly committing sins and making confession, so they need God to do a new stage of work, that is, the work of the Age of kingdom done by Almighty God. In the Age of Kingdom, God judges man and cleanses man with His word, and finally brings man into a pleasant destination. Although the work of each age is different, the aim is all to save man, so that man can get rid of the bondage of sin and live in the light of God.”

My mother asked with confusion, “In the meetings, our church leader said, ‘As long as we run and spend for the Lord, and suffer and pay the price, we can be approved by the Lord.’ Why does the Lord still need to do the work of chastising and judging man?” Sister Zhou smiled, and said, “Let’s read Almighty God’s words. God says, ‘Whether or not man can be saved does not depend on how much work he does, or how much he devotes, but is instead determined by whether or not he knows the work of the Holy Spirit, whether or not he can put the truth into practice, and whether or not his views towards pursuit are in conformity with the truth.’ ‘… Day in, day out, Paul worked for God: as long as there was work to be done, he did it. He felt that in this way he would be able to gain the crown, and could satisfy God, yet he did not seek ways to change himself through his work. Anything in Peter’s life that did not satisfy God’s desire made him feel uneasy. If it did not satisfy God’s desire, then he would feel remorseful, and would look for a suitable way by which he could strive to satisfy God’s heart. In even the smallest and most inconsequential aspects of his life, still he required himself to satisfy God’s desire. He was no less exacting when it came to his old disposition, ever rigorous in his requirements of himself to progress deeper into the truth. Paul sought only superficial reputation and status. He sought to show off himself before man, and did not seek to make any deeper progress in life entering. What he cared about was doctrine, not reality. … The path walked by Paul is the path of failure, and he represents all those who only submit and expend themselves superficially, and do not genuinely love God. Paul represents all those who do not possess the truth. In his belief in God, Peter sought to satisfy God in all that he did, and sought to obey all that came from God. Without the slightest complaint, he was able to accept chastisement and judgment, as well as refinement, tribulation and lack in his life, none of which could alter his love of God. Is this not the ultimate love of God? Is this not the fulfillment of the duty of a creature of God? Chastisement, judgment, tribulation—you are capable of achieving obedience unto death, and this is what should be achieved by a creature of God, this is the purity of the love of God.’ (from The Word Appears in the Flesh) Almighty God’s words tell us that whether man can be saved does not depend on how much work he does, or how much he spends and forsakes, but on whether he can practice the truth, accept God’s chastisement and judgment, and get rid of his corrupt disposition. Even though Paul suffered a lot for preaching the gospel, his toils and hard labor were totally for his own outcome, rewards, and the crown, rather than for loving God, exalting God and testifying God so as to bring people before the Lord, much less for carrying out God’s will; while Peter pursued to love God and obey God. He could obey any chastisement, judgment and tribulation without complaints or transactions. He knew God best, and his serving was after God’s heart. So we can see, many of man’s good behaviors in believing in God do not mean the transformation of their disposition, much less that they have been purified. If one wants to change his disposition and attain purification, he must accept the work of judgment and purification of Almighty God—the returned Lord Jesus.” My cousin said gladly, “Your fellowship is so great. In the past, we only pay attention to outward good behaviors, rather than the transformation of our disposition. Actually, we want to exchange for God’s blessings and our future destination by suffering. Through your fellowship, I come to realize that our pursuit is not after God’s heart.” My mother nodded and said, “Exactly, why didn’t I realize this before?” I said, “Without reading God’s words, we couldn’t realize these. Sister Zhou, please fellowship more with us about how God judges man and purifies man.” Sister Zhou said, “Thanks be to God! About the truth concerning how God does the work of judgment, Almighty God has already given us the answer.”
